The decision of the Constitutional Court to abolish the reduction in benefits to Chernobyl victims is another victory in the struggle to protect the rights of ordinary people. This way the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC parliamentary faction Yuriy Boyko commented on the decision of the Constitutional Court of July 17, 2018, which restored social guarantees and benefits to the liquidators and victims of the Chernobyl accident.

“We have been trying to achieve this decision for several years, having made more than ten submissions to the Constitutional Court. Last week, through an ultimatum, we put pressure on the authorities to take a decision on paying salary wages to the miners. Today’s decision of the Constitutional Court on Chernobyl victims is another victory in the struggle to protect the rights of ordinary people. We promised people to defend them to the end and, despite the fierce resistance of the current authorities, we keep our word,” Yuriy Boyko said.

The politician noted that this was the result of joint work with representatives of public organizations of Chernobyl, veterans and disabled people. “Everyone is engaged in his own business. The power pays millions of bonuses to top managers of “Naftogaz of Ukraine” and continues to plunder the country, we care about people, Chernobyl, miners, pensioners,” he said.

According to Yuriy Boyko, at first Chernobyl victims defended the country from a radiation disaster, and then they were deprived of their last chance for a normal human life by the authorities. ‘They can recall the Chernobyl disaster once a year – on April 26 and introduce a false tear on the television camera. In fact, they cut financing of the most important Chernobyl cancer programs, they close housing programs, and Chernobyl victims are deprived of the right to receive free meals in schools,” the opposition politician noted.

“Not so long ago a new sarcophagus was built over the destroyed fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. I think that such a sarcophagus would have to cover the current authorities, because of them there is more harm than from any accident. This power emits the radiation of poverty and destitution for the country,” the Co-Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC summarized.

Recall, on July 17, 2018, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine adopted a decision on the submission of 50 MPs of Ukraine on the compliance of the Constitution of Ukraine with subparagraphs 2-7, 12 and 14 of paragraph 4 of Section I of the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments and Recognition of Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine” from December 2014 №76-III”. In the budget 2013, UAH 2.6 billion was allocated for the program “Social protection of citizens who suffered as a result of the Chernobyl disaster”, in the budget of 2018 – UAH 1.9 billion, which in nominal terms is less by 26.8% , in real terms (with inflation 137%) is almost half as much, and in the dollar terms – less than 5 times.
